Post-Southern Blizzard…and it’s 60 degrees now?
What gives with this weather folks? Is it just me or does Arkansas weather makes absolutely no sense whatsoever?
A blizzard swept through Little Rock and literally shut down the city for two days straight, three days in some places, and now the temperature is expected to be in the 60s this weekend. Now I know that the folksy saying in casual Arkansas, mid-South-speak is, “If you don’t like the weather, wait five minutes,” but this borders on the bipolar. On Wednesday and Thursday, not only could you not get a cab in Little Rock, but you couldn’t even order a pizza.
Now I understand tough weather. Arkansas is nothing compared to the sub-zero temperatures and merciless gusts of freezing wind that blow off the plains in and around in Kansas City. Growing up I remember stepping outside in the early morning when my grandma would walk me to school as a little boy and shock of the cold would feel like someone was literally slapping me in the face. I’d bury my head in her side just to stand up straight. So I get cold weather. I just don’t get crazy weather.
Leave it to Arkansas to close down completely like a mole in a hole during the regular work week and then magically bring out the banjos for a honky-tonk style jamboree as soon as the weekend rolls around.
Trust me. I’m not trying to hate. I just don’t know what these mid-Southern freaks are trying to accomplish here by keeping me from my effing work during the week. Maybe I need a hovercraft to get to work when the basic city services are crazy like this.
